Jim was sent to Kentucky for a fire assignment on Saturday. The sad thing is Thomas & Daddy went and got a pumpkin and a cool carving kit, as that was their plan on Friday. Shortly after they got home, Thomas went down for a nap, when Jim got the phone call. I put the pumpkin on our porch, but there will be no pumpkin carving this year.
Jim should be back home on October 30th, so on the 29th I will dress Thomas in his Winnie the Pooh pumpkin costume and go to the church Fall festival.

Is there any reason why you can't still have Jim and Thomas carve the pumpkin on Oct 30th? And then, you can go trick or treating on the 31st with Jim/Thomas? That way you can still do all the things you planned on doing when he gets back. And, no one says you couldn't carve the pumpkin AFTER Halloween...Thomas wouldn't know the difference and you could still get cute pictures!
My mom and dad always had us carve pumpkins the day before or day of Halloween. This ensured that the pumpkins weren't wilted on Halloween day.

So Heather, here's your answer. Jim won't be home until Halloween night. After being gone for 14 days, the only thing on his mind will be spending time with family. November is a busy month for us, and then come December 1st our house becomes a magical Christmas wonderland (maybe exaggerated a little on that one). So the pumpkin carving will have to wait until next year. Thomas might have more fun next year, anyways.
